Incomplete

Forget all that has gone before –
The lovers, the losses, the never were –
They mean little more than nothing
And a whole lot less than one.

They pale into insignificance,
A fleeting memory on the wind,
Cast aside in your presence
Like resolutions made in haste.

When you are near to me
I drink in all that you are.
You fill me and complete me
Until I feel I may burst.

Without you I find joy
But it doesn’t spark a light inside.
That which once excited me
Plays indifferent in my mind.

I want to share my world with you,
To fill every hidden void.
I want to create perfect memories
Of imperfect rendezvous’.

Look forward to our future,
Held before us in such embrace
That all who should espy it
Should feel quite whole again.

And though these lines are written
And must surely come to an end,
May they serve as soft reminders
Of what we are when not alone.
