27/11/2020 – Poem a Day Compilation
Do you hear the silence?
It surrounds me with tranquillity
The lull is more than peaceful
Its embrace far more intimate
And the words it speaks are hushed
Sent to quieten and to soothe
To soothe my soul with meditation
To silence the beasts in my head
To keep the voices hushed inside
To revel in the tranquillity of noiselessness
To create an intimate place within me
To be peaceful and at rest
The peaceful solitude of this moment
Will soothe the savage beast
In this intimate twinkling of an eye
The silence flows through me
A sea of tranquillity flowing over me
In hushed and unobtrusive terms
When the world is hushed around me
And all is peaceful in my life
There’s a tranquillity beyond words
That soothe all around
Because silence can speak louder
And be more intimate than anything else
It’s the intimate glance between lovers
The hushed sighs late at night
Shrouded in a silence that’s comfortable
And peaceful to be within
When a touch can soothe your spirit
And a tranquillity takes the reins
There’s tranquillity in the mundane
Intimate moments in the banal
They soothe the troubled waters
And harsh words are hushed once more
As peaceful contemplation rises
And silence spreads with every breath
This silence begets tranquillity
Peaceful interactions turn intimate and
Hushed murmurs soothe a heart that beats too fast
Out of the quarrel with others we make rhetoric; out of the quarrel with ourselves we make poetry. (W.B. Yeats) Here lies that which is inside no more, that which burns my mind and must be expelled. Here lies the greatest of all inventions. Here lies words.

Let’s
26/10/2020 – Poem a Day Compilation
Let’s sit a while,
You and I,
In quiet contemplation,
The world drifting by
Without we two
As we mull over our thoughts.
Let’s care not
For material possessions
Nor ties that bind us here,
For in this moment
There is nought
But the steady exhale of breath.
Let’s be at one
With every pounding heartbeat
That echoes in our chests,
Fading slowly
Until all that is left
Is the metronomes steady tick.
Let’s allow our tears
To roll softly down cheeks
That have felt too many
While we imagine
A life that is not our own
But hope to capture.
Let’s sit a while,
You and I,
In quiet contemplation,
The world drifting by
Without we two
As we mull over our thoughts.
Let’s care not
For material possessions
Nor ties that bind us here,
For in this moment
There is nought
But the steady exhale of breath.
Let’s be at one
With every pounding heartbeat
That echoes in our chests,
Fading slowly
Until all that is left
Is the metronomes steady tick.
Let’s allow our tears
To roll softly down cheeks
That have felt too many
While we imagine
A life that is not our own
But hope to capture.

The Apology
22/10/2020 – Poem a Day Compilation
I’m sorry.
I don’t know what else to say.
Please, help me.
Can’t you give me the words?
My heart fills my mouth.
I can’t talk.
I want to tell you.
I want to apologise properly.
The words won’t come.
They stick in my throat.
I fear they will seem empty.
That you won’t believe me.
I’m afraid it’s too late.
Why is it so hard?
Is sorry not enough?

The Sound of Silence
07/07/2020 – Poem a Day Compilation
Do you hear that sound?
It is the sound of a million voices,
Silent in the dark,
Afraid and confused and betrayed
By the noise inside their heads
That won’t pass their lips,
That can’t be heard in the night,
That wells up inside them
And chokes them
While those with the power
To yell and scream and shout
Do nothing in this world
But make endless noise
Drowning out the silence
Of another voice lost –
Another muzzle fitted,
Another story untold –
When we desperately need to hear
And to listen
To those who are silent
To those with no voice
To those who hide in the shadows
Beyond the safe spaces and the tears
Because in this world they cannot shout
Over the static that surrounds them
And there is no blood curdling scream
Until it is too late,
(As the scream falls silent
And you wonder why they didn’t speak,
Why they didn’t cry out,
Why no one heard)
And the yelling never stops,
It never goes away
It echoes and repeats
In the silence of the forgotten;
And the terror that lives in that silence
Sucks air out of lungs,
Rips flesh from bones
And lets blood run dry
Because it has no answers
Only silence, and more silence,
And there,
In the sound of silence,
It hides, and it grows,
Consuming everything –
All that betrayal,
All that confusion,
All that fear –
Until there is only silence
And silence is the only sound.
Do you hear that sound?
It is the sound of a million voices,
Silent in the dark,
Afraid and confused and betrayed
By the noise inside their heads
That won’t pass their lips,
That can’t be heard in the night,
