Lately, I’ve thought of you and didn’t cry

The idea of you didn’t even make me sigh

I realised I would never know the reasons why

And it was time to finally say goodbye



Lately, the sense of loss has escaped me

The pain of rejection has let me be

I’ve opened up my eye and can now see

The memory of you has set me free



Lately, I have been able to move on

No longer needing a crutch to lean upon

Spreading wings more powerful than a swan

The weight of regret now completely gone
