Dreamer

08/11/2020 - Poem a Day Compilation

The Beatles had it right

When they asked us to imagine

Though they also recognised

That some would see them as dreamers

But is that such a bad thing to be?

I want to be a part of something

Something that is universally good,

That is built from the dreams of the many

Who had a vision of a better future

In which we could all follow our dreams.

Thoreau said that dreams

Were the touchstones of our characters –

The standard by which we should be judged

And to which we should live up to

In this world of our own making.

If you dream just for yourself

Then you live just for yourself

And I hope my dreams are bigger

Than the small bubble I occupy

And reaches out to those around.

If I could have a dream

Like Martin Luther King, Junior

That inspires generations

From all around the world

What a good dream it would be.

To have a dream that resonates

So strongly around the world

That it is talked about and quoted

For years and years to come

Long after you’ve passed on.
